I’m Nicky Thomas and I have been a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine since 1999. I currently practice at York Natural Health in Acomb, which is a centre for natural health care. As well as running a busy Clinic in York, I also enjoy providing practical and academic tutoring to students, who are doing a three year degree course in Chinese Medicine, both within the Teaching Clinic and Classroom, at the Northern College of Acupuncture. The course teaching that I deliver includes Pain Management, Rheumatology, and Embodied Mindfulness and Movement.
I began my four-year study of Chinese Medicine in 1996 after my interest was kindled by a visit to China. I was drawn to its natural, sustainable and holistic approach and emphasis on prevention and lifestyle changes. I am passionate about offering people different perspectives to healthcare having been inspired by the Chinese model where Western and Chinese medicine approaches are integrated in a positive way to help people regain health and balance.
I’m dedicated to making the experience of having acupuncture one in which you have time to be listened to and understood, and feel supported through the physical and emotional challenges that you may be facing. After all these years of practicing, I'm still inspired by how the insertion of very fine needles, and other treatment modalities, can bring about such profound and life-altering changes in a person’s energy, sleep, stress and pain levels.
Teaching yoga and qi gong allows me to integrate my passion for helping people to improve their quality of life and well-being, but via movement and mindfulness. Although a different kind of mind-body practice, it is one that, like acupuncture and acupressure, helps us to relax and open up tense and constricted areas, and feel stronger emotionally and physically.
Over the past few years, I have continued to deepen my professional training, completing extensive further study in Integrated Somatic Trauma Awareness, Somatic EMDR, Hypnotherapy and Professional Psychotherapeutic Counselling.
From January 2027, I will be expanding my practice to incorporate psychotherapeutic approaches alongside my existing work, offering clients a broader range of supportive, trauma-informed interventions to help promote healing, resilience and personal growth.
Alongside my individual practice, I also facilitate art, yoga and painting retreats in collaboration with a professional artist. These retreats bring together movement, creativity, nature and contemplative practice, offering an opportunity to step away from the demands of everyday life, reconnect with yourself and explore wellbeing through both body and creative expression.
